Even if we know that delegating can be profitable, it’s normal to feel at a loss when comes the time to get into motion. 😶‍🌫️

However, when well-executed, the delegating process can be very beneficial!

It can free your mind;
It gets you motivated;
It generates a positive impact on productivity and the success of your organization.

Steps to confirm what to delegate

1. Identify your goals and most pressing projects at the moment;

2. Make a list of the tasks that are currently covered by staff and determine if some of these should be delegated for performance or time management reasons;

3. Identify the projects or tasks that have been put aside over the past couple of months but that would be relevant in reaching your goals.

To illustrate a few potential applications, let’s use Dan as an example.

Dan leads a dynamic organization of about 40 employees. The organization is very successful and things are moving fast… too fast even. The team is motivated but sometimes exasperated by the lack of time to rest and take a step back.

The frantic pace also generates communication and workplace cohesion issues, which in turn affects performance.

Dan decides to call The Storyteller to get external support. 💡

Here’s an overview of the collaboration that followed.

💭 Step # 1 : Brainstorming and evaluation activity with the management team

To set solid foundations, a structured conversation made up of incisive questions, collaborative workshops, and a visual summary meant to support comprehension is proposed to the management team, in order to better assess the situation.

RESULT: Thanks to an external and neutral outlook, the team expanded its horizons and collectively identified some short, medium and long term solutions to their challenges.

🧭 Step # 2 : Establishing a communication strategy

After a few weeks of reflection and deliberations, Dan asks The Storyteller to create an internal communication strategy for his organization, a tool identified as a potential solution during the brainstorming session.

RESULT: Dan and his company can benefit from a well-thought-out roadmap containing tangible recommendations that he wouldn’t have thought of, while also reflecting the priorities of the management team.

📝 Step # 3 : Executing the communication strategy

Following the approval of the strategy, some of the projects identified in the plan such as the development of a communication policy, the organization of a workshop and the preparation of monthly newsletters and blog posts destined to employees are attributed to The Storyteller.

RESULT: Supported by a clear vision and professional help from start to finish, Dan’s organization benefits from better cohesion between goals and actions, which maximizes impact and efficiency.

How about you, do you call upon external consultants and delegate in your organization or business? How does it impact your team’s success?
